another successful visit!

well, we had our 2nd ultrasound today. it was a bit of a stressful appointment - the rookwood shopping center during lunch rush with no power / traffic lights led to me having a bit of a panic attack. luckily, my doctor's office has a backup generator and we were able to see a picture of our little one anyway ... which is good because i think the construction workers responsible for knocking out the power would have suffered a bloody demise if i didn't have my ultrasound today! never underestimate the power of pregnancy hormones!

but, despite all of the power outage drama, the ultrasound was a success! we could not believe how big the baby had gotten over just the last two weeks! she (i've decided she's a "she" though we won't find out for sure for at least another 10 weeks or so) got about 20X bigger than the last time we saw her, and instead of looking like a sliver of a fingernail, she looked like a tiny sour patch kid candy. i feel like i should change the name of this blog to "what my baby looks like this week." again, the heart beat was good, and we could see a defined head, arms and legs! i'm still amazed at how big she's gotten. and i guess that explains why i have felt so terrible lately!

i had a nice girl's night out this past saturday with the gang. it was a little rough, but still fun. i fit into my dress just BARELY - mostly it was too tight around the chest area - otherwise, i think it still would have been comfortable in the tummy area, and I was VERY ready to change out of my dress when i got home! it was a little hard seeing everyone enjoy their wine "flights" when i REALLY wanted to try one, so we'll have to come back there in the winter when i can join in on the wine tasting! but i did feel pretty lousy during most of the dinner part - it started pretty much as soon as the main dish came. i felt bad because everyone was looking at me and asking me if i was okay, and i really wasn't, but i'm getting a bit used to and there's nothing that can be done when i start to feel like that. i feel like everyone just needs to assume that i feel like poop and it's fine. especially during a meal or a meeting, when i start to feel like that, i just need to try to just sit as still as possible and hope that the feeling will go away. though i did discover that lemonade could be a great remedy!

i also got to celebrate my 1st almost-mother's day on sunday. my mom bought me (or the baby!) 6 books, some "baby IQ" dvds, and possible the most annoying baby toy ever - a huge plush octopus, whose legs each make a different sound like a bike horn. grandmother's revenge!

i have my first appointment with my normal OBGYN on tuesday the 31st, which will be right around 11 weeks - so my next ultrasound will probably be right at the beginning of the second trimester. oh, and we remembered to ask this time - our due date is December 17th!
