we haven't done a great job of updating our blog... mostly because nothing really new or exciting has been going on in our lives over the last couple of years. but finally, we have some news to share. i'm keeping this blog offline for now, but as soon as we go public, i will post it online for everyone to be able to listen to me complain and go into raptures about the joys of pregnancy.
this is our second pregnancy, but the first one did not end happily. we are really excited for this baby, though, after a long year and a half of trying to start our family!
i'm very early in the pregnancy still - about 6 weeks today. in a few days, i'll have my first ultrasound. while of course the baby will still be nothing more than a little tadpole-looking creature that will be a blip on the screen, we will be able to learn 1) if the pregnancy is viable - we will hear the heartbeat! and 2) if we're having more than one! while we're definitely not keeping our fingers crossed for two, at least we'd be done with the baby making in one shot!
so far, i've not been feeling great. initially the nausea wasn't as bad as the first time around, which i took as a good sign. the first time, i had a ton of symptoms (nausea and exhaustion especially) immediately after becoming pregnant. while the symptoms this time have been a bit slower to develop, i'm staring to spend most of my days feeling queasy, and tend to feel especially off at night. the worst is that i seem to bounce between feeling like i'm starving to feeling like i'm going to hurl! yesterday, i was so sick i had to force myself to eat breakfast (which is never a problem for me normally) and once i got to work, i was so ill that even my normal nausea fighters (almonds, crackers) seemed like a bad idea, so i looked up other alternatives online. what seems to work: lemon-flavored candy. so i've got a trusty box of lemonheads at my desk now. what is also frustrating is that eating is usually what staves off the nausea, and i've been advised to not work out, so i'm feeling really fat and flabby after about 2 weeks of not working out. i thought i'd be a little further along before i started to feel whale-like.
i'm also pretty exhausted, which is a bit difficult as this week was my first week back at landor. i'm glad i got to spend the previous week resting and relaxing, but i think this week would have been better for that, as i feel worse this week. i haven't had any weird pregnancy dreams yet, but i was woken by tornado sirens last night and couldn't get back to sleep because i was SO HUNGRY. only my exhaustion kept me from running downstairs and raiding the pantry for crackers. i think i'm going to have to put some crackers by my bed for future hunger attacks! yup, i'm well on my way to stacking on the 25-35 pounds i should gain over the next 7 1/2 months!
i probably won't post again until after our ultrasound on monday, but i just really needed a place to jot down all of these things that i'm feeling and experiencing - it honestly is just too weird! but definitely something that i know will be worth it!
