well, our first ultrasound was a success! we saw the baby (ONE - no twins, thankfully... though I had been kind of getting myself prepared for that reality) but of course it looked like an itty-bitty bean. i knew it was going to be small (my pregnancy tracker told me it was the size of a sweet pea this week - however big that is), but i didn't expect it to be almost invisible! but we could see the heart beat - the little blip on the screen that is our baby pulsed rapidly to show us it was alive and kicking!
so, everything looked healthy and strong, but we're not quite out of the woods yet. i imagine you never really relax during a pregnancy. i'm hyper-aware of everything going on in my body in a pretty graphic and disturbing way - and my body is responding by giving me lots of little symptoms to let me know that something is going on that i should pay attention to! but i do think i'll feel a bit better once we enter the 2nd trimester.
we have another ultrasound at our fertility clinic in two weeks and then, assuming everything looks as good as it did today (the doctor's words), we'll transfer our appointments over to my OBGYN. and at that point, we'll be less than 3 weeks away from the end of the 1st trimester.
we'll head into the 2nd trimester right in time for our trip to vegas for dave and val's wedding. so when i come back from the trip i will likely need to tell work that i'm pregnant. i'm pretty sure i will be showing before then though, just based on how much i'm eating. or maybe i'll just look REALLY REALLY chubby!
we're starting to tell a few people, but not quite ready to go completely public.... yet!
